Behind every great man . . . Centenarian Hannah Sempler Hoyt (Barbara Stanwyck) tells her story in flashbacks from when as a teenager she met and eloped with Ethan Hoyt, who later founded Hoyt City, through to the dedication of his statue.
Thirty-five-year-old Barbara Stanwyck played Hannah over an eighty-year age range in the movie. Wally Westmore was responsible for the makeup which was exceptional for the time (1942).
