Most stars seem to play themselves or at least play characters who share looks and behaviours with a star’s public persona.

But there is another class of actor capable of taking on widely differing roles: some of them specialise in character parts and some of them are leading ladies but all of them have been willing to change their on-screen appearance and persona to fit the role.

Then again there are the impressionists and sketch show actresses.
