Long before Shallow Hal flashbacks to ‘fat Monica’ (Courteney Cox) were a running joke in Friends – she appeared in four episodes over eight years: The One with the Prom Video; The One with all the Thanksgivings; The One That Could Have Been; The One Where the Stripper Cries. Strictly speaking, The One That Could Have Been is a might-have-been: featuring a still fat, present day Monica.

Courteney Cox said in one interview: ‘It took me about three hours get me into ‘Fat Monica’ makeup.’
