Everybody’s life experience affects their appearance: that is one of the basic assumptions of character makeup – and too often it results in visual cliches.

But some characters endure particularly hard lives or hard times: peasant women; drug addicts; bag ladies; prostitutes; and inmates in prisons or mental institutions. So here we have a number of actresses definitely not looking their best.
