When movie makers turn to making movies about moviemaking the results are fascinating. Illusion is revealed to go all the way down as you realise that the process of the actress-character transforming her appearance with makeup for a movie-within-a-movie role is itself all artifice.
This section features movie-within-movie makeups as in The Stunt Man where Barbara Hershey plays the actress Nina Franklin who, in turn, dons prosthetic makeup to play an older character in the movie she is making.
