A movie creaking under the weight of its own metaphors.
In the dying days of British rule a dying English photojournalist tries to document the ‘real’ Hong Kong one last time but finds that he is distanced by the ambiguities of his own position. Then he runs into Jean (Maggie Cheung), a street hawker with a scarred face.
Isabel Harkins and Shiu-Lin Lo were the key makeup artists. I have no information as to who was responsible for creating Maggie Cheung’s disfigurement; if anyone can help with the credits, please themakeupgallery.
