A movie creaking under the weight of its own metaphors.

In the dying days of British rule a dying English photojournalist tries to document the ‘real’ Hong Kong one last time but finds that he is distanced by the ambiguities of his own position. Then he runs into Jean (Maggie Cheung), a street hawker with a scarred face.
