scarred faces: The Butterfly Effect

Chaos theory: a butterfly flutters its wings over the pacific and a sets off a chain of events . . .

A boy grows up in a small town; he suffers from memory blackouts where he suddenly finds himself somewhere else, confused. His friends and mother think he makes it up just to get out of trouble – something bad always seems to happen during these blackouts. As a college student he discovers a way to travel back in time to those blackout moments and tries to change his life by changing painful events from his childhood. But he discovers that a tiny change in his childhood will dramatically change his life today – and his alternative future gets worse with every attempt. His mother and Kayleigh Miller (Amy Smart) – his childhood love – also suffer the unintended consequences of his actions: the present-day Kayleigh becomes a scarred drug addict who prostitutes herself to feed her addiction – teeth, complexion and hair are all ruined while personal hygiene is a thing of the past.

Felix Fox and Toby Lindala were the special makeup effects artists.
