Andrea (Marie Zielcke) is a young workaholic designer; suddenly her life is turned upside down when she is diagnosed with breast cancer. She has a mastectomy. With a lust for life and love, and with the support of her friends, she survives and gradually comes to terms with her changed body.
This is the second time Marie Zielcke has undergone a radical transformation to play a cancer patient: a few years ago she shaved her head to play Paulina in Der Schrei des Schmetterlings.
Kerstin Gaecklein and Heiko Schmidt were the makeup artists. The mastectomy makeup is quite amazing: it is very rare for filmmakers to risk, or go to the expense of, such a makeup were the actress appears naked from the waist – as opposed to revealing ‘her breasts’ under an open blouse. It’s not surprising that Marie Zielcke commented in one interview that having small breasts was a definite advantage in winning the role.
