There is almost a whole sub-genre of movies and TV mini-series about characters triumphing over cancer or at least coming to terms with their lives in the face of cancer. Some of the female characters have to come to terms with losing one or both of their breasts: where this is shown it requires some very good prosthetic makeup to achieve a realistic depiction of the effect of a mastectomy.
Many of these movies feature female characters who lose their hair as a result of chemotherapy: sometimes this effect is achieved with bald-caps (eg Jami Gertz, Susan Sarandon & Lauren Holly) but many actresses have actually shaved their heads (eg Emma Thompson, Karin Viard & Martha Plimpton) for such a role – both are illustrated in the hairless section.
