Various witches

The witch is the architypical female horror character (apart from the screaming victim) and the come in all varieties from the hook-nosed crone to the strangely alluring young woman or sometimes both extremes when she can disguise her true appearance.

The movies

The Golden Compass (2007): Serafina Pekkala (Eva Green) is a three-hundred-year-old witch queen who rules rules over certain clans in the around Lake Enara. She helps Lyra Belacqua on her journey; based on the novels, she would appear in the sequels – if they are made. Peter King was makeup & hair designer; Janine Schneider was the key makeup artist & hair stylist.

Sabrina, The Teenage Witch (1996): In the episode Sabrina and the Beast, Sabrina proves squeamish about her much-admired cousin Susie’s classic wart-covered, green-faced witch appearance. Susie was played by Sonje Fortag. If anyone has details of the makeup credits, please themakeupgallery.

Robin Hood: Men In Tights (1993): Latrine (Tracey Ullman) was the witch who helped (and got) the sheriff of Nottingham in Mel Brook’s unique take on this traditional tale. A movie that was worth it only for Tracey’s performance and the dance scene. Bari Dreiband-Burman was makeup department head; Thomas R Burman and Everett Burrell were special makeup effects artists. Todd McIntosh, Carol Schwartz and Blake Shepard were the makeup artists on the movie.
