Eva Braun (1912—1945) was the longtime companion and wife (for about thirty-six hours) of Adolf Hitler. They committed suicide together on the 30th April 1945; their corpses were burned with gasoline in the Reich Chancellery garden.
Her cousin Gertraud Weisker described her as ‘the unhappiest woman I have ever met’. She attempted suicide twice in the 1930s: once in 1932 by shooting herself in the neck and a second time in 1935 by taking an overdose of sleeping pills.
Hitler and Eva never appeared as a couple in public and Magda Goebbels usually acted as first lady of the Third Reich.
