Nancy Davis Reagan (born 1921) is the widow of Ronald Reagan and was First Lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989. As Nancy Davis, she appeared in eleven feature films, usually playing decent, godly, morally incorruptible characters too unremarkable to be remembered. She met Ronald Reagan in 1951 when she discovered that another Nancy Davis was on the Hollywood blacklist; she contacted Ronald Reagan, who was then president of the Screen Actors Guild, seeking help in getting her name off the blacklist. She was three-months pregnant when they married in March 1952. She was First Lady of California from 1967 to 1975, during her husband’s two terms as governor. In the White House she spent $200,000 on new china and was guided by a personal astrologer.
The Reagans: when I first read about the furore over this mini-series I had hopes for something different from the usual biopic but I was disappointed: not even Judy Davis could relieve the boredom. Stephan Dupuis was key makeup artist; Pamela Roth was Judy Davis’s makeup artist; Marie-Ange Ripka was Judy Davis’s hairdresser.
