look-alike makeups: Victoria the Great

A classic but very dated – it could only have been made before World War II and the end of Empire – biopic of queen Victoria (Anna Neagle); stylistically, it was already dated compared to contemporary American movies. Nevertheless, it was a massive hit in both Britain and the USA; to such an extent that they promptly remade it in Technicolor as Sixty Glorious Years – well they could hardly make a sequel.

Anna Neagle’s transformation into the aged Victoria was quite exceptional for British movies of the time; she was then in her early thirties, and only three years earlier had played Nell Gwyn.

Guy and Patricia Pearce were credited for makeup and hairdressing; according to IMDb Stuart Freeborn also worked on the movie.
