We remember the names and faces if not always the deeds. But these people made a different to the twentieth century; they worked wonders – with or without divine intervention.
But always remember that one person’s saint is to another person a heretic, an heretic, misguided, or deluded. Christopher Hitchens gave evidence to the Vatican opposing Mother Teresa’s beatification in which he argued that ‘her intention was not to help people’ because she wasn’t working to alleviate poverty but to to expand the number of Catholics telling him: ‘I’m not a social worker. I don’t do it for this reason. I do it for Christ. I do it for the church.’
This site is about the movie makeup, so please do not look here for a considered and objective judgement on these people; occasional asides – vicious or otherwise – are as good as it gets.
