The late eighteenth century was a fascinating period with the clashes between the defenders of the ancien régime and revolutionaries in both France and America. These ruptures were accompanied both by radical new ideas (eg The Rights of Man) and by equally radical changes in fashion.
Many of the images here illustrate the ancien régime look (though not necessarily in France).
