Ancient Greece is fascinating but most of the female characters but has very few historical female period characters.
For the sake of convenience I have divided Ancient Greece – for the purposes of this website into: the historical (eg Olympias, mother of Alexander the Great); the legendary (eg Helen of Troy); and the mythical (eg Medea). I’ve taken legend to include stories that may have taken place – or at least could be perceived as having have taken – place within human history and which include no happenings that are outside the realm of ‘possibility’ while mytholgy references an ‘age when gods and mortals mingled freely’. Broadly speaking I have used the Trojan War as a cutoff point.
Historical and legendary characters are included in this section but characters from Greek mythology are included in the Mythical section, alongside Amazons, Cimmarians and various characters from Sword & Sorcery movies.
