Mythical characters
These are mythical characters – ie they probably never existed – where film-makers have generally either let their imaginations run riot or have allowed the actress a remarkably contemporary look.
They include characters, eg Medea, from Greek mythology; characters from Greek legends, eg Helen of Troy, are included in the Ancient Greece section.
They also include Amazons and Cimmerians who were mentioned by Herodotus some over two thousand years ago but are usually encountered in very unhistorical sword and sorcery movies.
