For Steve Klein’s ‘One For the Ages’ feature in the September 2011 editionof W Amber Valletta took a decade-by-decade trip through a century of ensembles from 1929 to 2019.
Through the sequence of photographs Amber transitions from a young woman with flapper curls in the 1920s and Jean Harlow-style brows in the 1930s right through to the aged but still fashionable woman of 1998, 2009 and 2019.
Throughout she remains surrounded by her young suitors.
Dominie Till was the makeup artist; Christien Tinsley (Tinsley Studio) was the prosthetic makeup designer; Lucia Pieroni was the fashion makeup artist.
Amber Vallettsa said:
It was hours of makeup, but we had a professional prosthetic makeup artist and a fashion makeup artist. They did a full face cast, they did ears, they did hands; they did everything [including contact lenses and body prosthetics up to the neck]. It was pretty incredible. The shoot lasted for two days – two, very, very, very long days. I was so excited to be there and into the project that the hours sitting, doing it, seemed not really important.
