Featuring various actresses who have played genuinely fat – if not morbidly-obese – characters. Usually the fat-suit and prosthetics are required because the character is seen before and after her weight gain/lose, or else is seen in an alternative reality (or in the case of Shallow Hal, from an alternative perspective).

Very rarely does a slim actress simply play an obese character – Gertrude in Gormenghast is the only one who springs to mind. As such the debare about thin actresses playing fat characters is missing the point, at least when it comes to obese characters; how those characters are treated in the storyline is, of course, another matter.
