Following on from the events of Escape from the Planet of the Apes a futuristic Earth has embraced ape slavery. Then Caesar, the son of Cornelius and Zira, emerges from almost twenty years in hiding and prepares to lead a slave revolt against humanity.
Along the way he falls in love with Lisa (Natalie Trundy) who becomes the first ape to speak after Caesar.
Unlike Kim Hunter, Natalie Trundy was a starlet and the movie producer’s wife when she donned the ape prosthetics for the last two movies in the series (Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Battle for the Planet of the Apes). But although Natalie was in four of the movies in three separate roles – mutant, human scientist and ape – it’s Kim Hunter as Zira that we all remember.
John Chambers was the creative makeup designer: Dan Striepeke was the makeup supervisor on Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Joe DiBella was the makeup supervisor for Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
Like most ape characters, except Kim Hunter, Natalie Trundy wore brown contact lenses as well as extensive prosthetics to play Lisa.
